Marathon County initiated GIS development with a 1990 Aerial flight. Planimetric data was digitized from this flight and served as a basemap. These data were updated based on a Spring 2000 flight, then updated again with a Spring 2005 and 2010 flights. County data based on these flights include: orthophotography, landuse, road network, buildings, hydro and woods. Other data available for Marathon County include: tax parcels, soils, 2' contours, sewer service area, supervisory districts, wards, etc. Information on all available data and maps from the GIS can be obtained by contacting the Conservation, Planning and Zoning Department (715-261-6000). See What is GIS for more information.
