Why are the Marathon County Child Support Agency and the Marathon County Office of Corporation Counsel involved with my family?
In certain cases, the State of Wisconsin is an interested party for the purposes of establishing paternity, securing reimbursement of benefits paid, setting support orders, and recovering costs in some actions affecting the family. When the State of Wisconsin is an interested party, the Child Support Agency may seek child support obligations to ensure parents fulfill their financial responsibilities to their children. The Office of Corporation Counsel, acting on behalf of the State of Wisconsin, may ask the Court order a parent to pay child support to relieve taxpayers from supporting some or all of the needs of a child. When a parent is receiving public benefits, the taxpayers have an interest to ensure all available resources are being used for the care of children. This includes child support.
