The Northern Regional Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) is dedicated to meeting families’ needs through a statewide coordinated system of information, referral and follow up, family to family support and strong partnerships with providers in the Northern Region of Wisconsin.
The Northern Regional Center office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Our office is located in Wausau, Wisconsin within the Marathon County Health Department. We encourage families and providers to call, email or visit our office. Staff are available to problem solve and provide referrals to community, state and national resources to respond to each family with a child with special needs.

Julia Stavran is the Program Manager for the Northern Regional Center. She has worked with families in public health for over 26 years. Julia wants all families to have the information and services they need to be healthy. Julia uses her knowledge and social work background to connect families to local resources and to do problem solving to help children and youth. Julia and her family have lived in central Wisconsin for over 30 years.
Jean Kaatz is a public health nurse with over 27 years of experience in working with families including children and youth with special health care needs. Jean has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing. Jean is knowledgable and willing to help families to learn about resources and problem solve to help them care for a child with special health care needs.
The Wisconsin Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) Program, within the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Division of Public Health, is supported with funding from the Maternal and Child Health Title V Services Block Grant, Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Wisconsin First Step is a statewide Information and Referral (I&R) hotline that serves families with children who have special health care needs. This hotline is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week and can be contacted if you are looking for information on programs and services for children and youth with special health care needs when the Regional Center is closed.
