For over 30 years the Marathon County Health Department has been providing hearing and vision screening for elementary school children in all private and public schools within Marathon County. These screenings continue to identify children who have vision and hearing issues that may interfere with a child’s ability to learn.

All children in 4K, 5K, grades, 1, 2, 3 and 5 will be screened each year, plus any other children referred on an individual basis. New students or students with observed behavioral indicators of hearing loss or vision loss will be screened as requested by teachers/school nurses.

Any child who meets eligibility for screening but has a parental or medical request not to be screened, will be exempted from the screening.
