The Marathon Park Train started its 60th year of operation Friday, May 25th, 2012 with a new/old look. Thanks to a generous donation by Mitzi Dolloff in honor of her late husband Cliff Dolloff, the train was painted to replicate the Milwaukee Road’s North Woods Hiawatha passenger train that served Wausau in 1952 when the park train began its service. Cliff Dolloff was a Milwaukee Road conductor for 40 years and worked on both the North Woods Hiawatha and freight trains out of Wausau.

The Marathon Park Train was manufactured specifically for Marathon Park by the Miniature Train Company (MTC) of Elmhurst, IL. and was delivered in May 1952. The train was originally owned by Park Concessions, Inc., the private concessionaire in Marathon Park, and was subsequently bought and sold by a series of concession operators. The train almost left Marathon Park in 2010 when Winter Concessions ceased their operations in the park. At that time the Wausau and Marathon County Parks Foundation raised funds to purchase the train and gift it to Marathon County on the condition that the County would continue to operate this community icon that has been part of growing up in Marathon County for the last 60 years.
