General Information: There are two ATV/UTV areas in Marathon County.  The Burma Forest Trails and the Edgar-Fenwood Trail.
Before an ATV or UTV may be operated on either trail, the vehicle must meet the DNR's definition of an ATV or UTV and must be registered.

The Burma Forest ATV/UTV trails opened for the 2019 riding season at 8am, Friday, May 17, 2019.

The Burma County Forest Unit ATV and UTV trails will be open between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. each day through September 30, 2019. Trails will be closed to ATV/UTV traffic in October and November annually, and open back up in December.  Motorcycles and dirt bikes are prohibited on the Burma trails. Please stay on designated ATV/UTV trails or this area may close.

Some Townships and Villages Have Opened Their Roads to ATVs & UTVs

Some Marathon County townships and villages have opened their local roads to all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and utility terrain vehicles (UTVs). The map below identifies which township and villages have met the legal requirements for opening roads to ATVs and UTVs. These legal requirements include adopting an ordinance regulating ATVs/UTVs, notifying all law enforcement agencies having jurisdiction over the roads and posting ATV/UTV route signs on designated roads. ATV/UTV routes may not include County or State highways unless authorized by the County Highway Department or Wisconsin Department of Transportation. County and State highways may be crossed perpendicularly at intersections or designated ATV/UTV route crossings. Remember to check with each municipality before you ride to avoid roads closed to ATVs/UTVs.

Keep in mind that these road routes are NOT a public trail system, are NOT funded trails and are NOT managed or maintained by Marathon County. Marathon County does NOT have maps identifying which roads are open or closed to ATVs/UTVs for townships or villages. Please contact each township or village with questions about their road routes.
