The Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department, in partnership with Marshfield Clinic and Security Health is pleased to announce a new healthy recreation program for Marathon County families. The Active Family Challenge begins April 15 and runs through June 15. During this nine week period, families will track their active recreation hours and win incentives when they reach15, 30, 45, and 60 hours of active recreation. All family team members will add up their weekly hours and divide them by the total number of members on the team. This averaging of hours will allow for large and small families to have a fair chance at reaching their goals.
The cost for the program is $25 per family and includes the incentives and exclusive access to four special family events throughout the nine week period. Participants will be invited to a Family Show Down that includes fun family challenges, healthy vegetable plantings, and nutrition talks. There will also be a Family Photo Scavenger Hunt and grill out, a Pickleball clinic with all equipment provided, and a S’mores bon fire and sing-along. Participants will receive a calendar of free or low cost recreation and nutrition programs or events happening during the nine week program so that they can take advantage of active recreation opportunities in the community and build hours toward their goals.
Financial assistance is available for those families that meet qualifying criteria such as receiving free or reduced lunch at the area school districts, Badger Care or similar services.
All Active Family participants will be invited to a free pool open house party on June 22 and those who reach 60 hours of activity will be in the running for special door prizes that include fitness club memberships, restaurant coupons, grocery gift cards and more.
