Welcome to the Marathon County Sheriff's Department
The Sheriff’s Office consists of 180 employees working in five different Divisions: Administration; Communications; Corrections; Investigations; and Patrol. Marathon County is geographically the largest County in the State of Wisconsin. A combination of urban and rural environments provides unique challenges. Our location of being in the center of the State with two major highways, Interstate 39 and STH 29 crossing it provides easy access from any direction. This is wonderful for our business, commerce, and tourism efforts and this area has much to offer. Those routes, also, make us vulnerable and provide ample opportunities for criminal enterprise, especially the controlled substance trafficking trade.
The department takes charge and custody of the jail and persons therein, and keeps records of all prisoners committed, charged and/or convicted of any arrests. The department must enforce all federal and state laws and county ordinances pertaining to traffic and crimes.
