The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) has two current senior level Veterans Program Specialist vacancies located in our central office in Madison. Salary:
Pay will be on a salary basis, at a rate equivalent to between $22.026 and $36.343 per hour (07-03), depending upon qualifications, plus an excellent benefits package. A six month probationary period is required.
Job Duties:
The primary responsibilities of these positions is to promote and further all facets of the department's outreach efforts through communications and meetings with organizations, businesses, stakeholders, and most importantly veterans; promoting veterans services and benefits in order to maximize benefits delivery to veterans and their families. These positions serve as a conduit to bring information from the department to veterans and their representatives, as well as to bring suggestions, questions and concerns back to the department from the veterans community. These positions will also assist management in the analysis of existing department programs and policies by recommending changes to better serve the needs of the 21st century veteran.
Special Note: WDVA will conduct background checks on applicants new to state service prior to selection.
KSA:
Incumbents in these positions must possess knowledge of outreach and public communication principles, techniques, tools, and strategies; as well as the ability to inform a wide variety of governmental agencies, special interest groups and individuals about veterans benefits, programs and resources. Also required is skill developing and maintaining cooperative work relationships with federal, state, veteran service organizations, County Veterans Service Officers, and community based organizations; problem-solving; and negotiating among diverse perspectives.
