The Marathon County Veterans Service Office announces that the Wisconsin Army National Guard is reviewing Wisconsin National Guard records, if requested, to determine eligibility for the Wisconsin National Guard Berlin Crisis Ribbon.
The Berlin Crisis Ribbon is awarded to members of the Wisconsin National Guard called into active federal service during the Berlin Crisis. There were a large number of local veterans called up with the 32nd Division, which was the local Army Guard unit based out of Wausau at that time. This activation was in late 1961, and many of the men served in Ft. Lewis, Wash. for about a year.
More information is available by contacting Marathon County Veterans Service Office at (715) 261-1141 with the veterans' name and service number; information will be forwarded to the Wisconsin Guard Bureau.
