Subject: Marathon County Snowmobile Trails to Open

AMENDED - IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department has announced that effective at Noon today, Friday, February 8, 2019, snowmobile trails in Zones 1 and 2 will open to snowmobiles only. Trails in Zones 3 and 4 will open to snowmobiles only effective at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019. Zone 5 trails will open effective at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2019.
Please be alert to trail closures in ALL Zones. These will be posted on the Marathon County snowmobile webpage as they are reported to the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
Trails designated for ATVs in ALL Zones open at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019. ATVs are prohibited on any trail when the air temperature is above 28 degrees Fahrenheit. ATV riders are reminded to check a current map to see if the trails they want to ride are open to ATVs.
The Mountain-Bay Trail is closed to ATVs at all times. All Marathon County snowmobile trails are closed to UTVs. UTVs are not all-terrain vehicles and do not meet the statutory definition for an ATV.
Please respect our landowners. Leaving a designated trail and/or snowmobiling on someone’s property without permission is trespassing.
