Summary:
The County Clerk's Office is the chief election official and conducts all federal, state, county, local and school elections. Election results are available online.
The County Clerk's Office issues Marriage Licenses, Declarations of Domestic Partnership, U.S. Passports, Department of Natural Resources hunting and fishing licenses/applications, direct seller's permits, timber cutting permits, temporary car license plates, and distributes the state dog licenses to local municipal treasurers. The Department is the filing agent for Farmland Preservation, receives claims filed against Marathon County, and keeps on record Marathon County contracts and leases. The office compiles and distributes the Marathon County Public Officials Directory and the Property Valuation Statistical Report.
The County Clerk's Office is the official Clerk to the Marathon County Board of Supervisors. All County Board minutes, original resolutions and ordinances are on file in the Clerk's Office. The Clerk is responsible for publishing all County Board official agendas, minutes and ordinances in the newspaper. The County Clerk, following the approval of the County budget, apportions the taxes to each of the 62 Marathon County municipalities.
The County Clerk's Office performs all administrative duties as prescribed in the Wisconsin State Statutes.
