The mission of the Employee Resources Department is to provide leadership for labor and management to cooperatively solve problems and promote excellence by balancing our roles as strategic business partners, change agents, employee advocates, and service providers. Labor RelationsWe negotiate collective bargaining agreements with our public employees in accordance with the requirements and procedures of Wisc. Stats. 111.70 and 111.77. Additionally, we assist departments with the administration of the labor contracts, including responding to formal employee grievances. The Employee Resources Department will then complete an employment interest card that will remain on file. The County EAP program is available for both Marathon County employees and their family members to get help for family or marital problems, alcohol or other drug abuse, financial concerns, parenting or elder care issues, mental health or behavioral difficulties, or personal conflicts you can't seem to resolve by yourself. Position AllocationWe study requests for new positions and prepare written reports and a recommendation for the Employee Resources Committee.Job Classification and CompensationWe conduct classification/compensation reviews on County positions to provide an up-to-date job classification system and to ensure adequate compensation to maintain a high quality workforce.Training and DevelopmentWe work to provide educational programs designed to enhance the competency of County employees. Of particular interest to us, is ensuring that management employees have the skills to effectively lead the employees assigned to them.Employee Safety and HealthIn conjunction with Risk Management, we work to develop policies designed to ensure that employees work in a safe environment and educational programs organized to ensure that each employee understands what needs to be done to protect themself from workplace injuries and illness. Additionally, we administer the worker’s compensation program for the County.
