NOTE: As of January 1, 2006, every elector in Wisconsin has to be registered.
Wisconsin residents who register to vote and need to prove their residence can use a newly consolidated list of residency documents. When registering to vote, you will complete FORM EB-131. You will need to have your driver's license with you to complete the form. Only if you do not drive, you will use the last four digits of your social security number.
Wisconsin Act 451 brings many changes to state election procedures and some of the changes affect new registrants. A voter who is registering, or re-registering, can use any document on the list to prove they have lived at their current address for at least ten days.
A resident who registers on election day must take to the one of these documents to the polling place. Poll workers will verify that the name and address of the election day registrant match on the proof of residence document.
Acceptable proof of residence documents include: Current, valid driver license; Current, valid state ID; Official ID or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body; Official card or license issued by an employer that contains a photo of the voter; Residential lease (except for first-time voters registering by mail); A property tax bill or receipt from the current or preceding year; A paycheck; A bank statement; A check or document issued by a Wisconsin government unit; A utility bill no more than 90 days old; A university, college or technical college ID with a photo of the voter. Proof of residence when registering to vote is required for voters registering less than 20 days prior to the election in the municipal clerk office, the requirements are the same for first-time voters in Wisconsin who register by mail, hospitalized voters who have not registered, new state residents who are voting for president only and voters registering at the polling place.
