The Mountain-Bay Trail is a Wisconsin State Park Trail that occupies the former Chicago and Northwestern Railroad right-of-way between Wausau and Green Bay. The trail right-of-way was acquired from the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in 1994 by the Wisconsin D.N.R. under the federal Rails to Trails Program. The entire 83.4-mile trail extends from Marathon County through Shawano County and into Brown County ending just west of Green Bay in the Village of Howard. Each county is responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of its own segment.
The trail travels through a variety of agricultural, forest, and wetland landscapes that exhibit many of the glacial landforms in Wisconsin. The trail links with the Ice Age National Recreation Trail in Marathon County, the Wiouwash Trail in Shawano County, and a network of trails in Brown County.
