Topic: Ice Rinks The Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department will operate the following ice rinks during the 2009-2010 winter season: OUTDOOR ICE RINKS: Update Thursday, January 28, 2010:
All outdoor recreational rinks, hockey rinks, and warming houses are open as per the below schedule. All rinks have lights for night skating and there are warming houses at Grant School and the 400 Block. Any time the combined air and wind temp falls to -20 degrees or colder, the rinks will close.

2009-2010 Season: General Information: The outdoor rinks will be maintained as weather conditions allow through February 20, 2010.
400 Block downtown Wausau – recreational rink and staffed warming house
Brockmeyer Park, 4300 Stettin Drive – recreational rink and hockey rink w/warming house
Grant Elementary School, 500 N 4th Avenue - recreational rink w/warming house
John Marshall School, 1918 Lamont St – recreational rink only and no warming house
Riverview School, 4303 E. Troy St – recreational and hockey rink w/warming house
Note: NO outdoor oval at Marathon Park. All of the outdoor recreational rinks are lighted as is the hockey rink at Riverview School; Brockmeyer Park hockey rink is not lighted. Lights are on timers. Warming houses will be available at all locations except at John Marshall school. Rinks

Open Skating Hours
Mon - Fri 5:30 - 8:30 pm
Sat 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Sun 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Rinks close if air temperature and wind chill combine to -20°. Reservations are required for “exclusive” use of a hockey rink for hockey and broomball practice/games. Hockey play is allowed on the hockey rinks which are available on either a first come/first serve basis or when reserved (see below). Outdoor Hockey Rink - Reservations
Up to a two hour block of time can be reserved, at no charge, during open skating hours (see above hours) for games and practices or a private party, i.e. broomball (an adult must be present and responsible for disposing of own trash) at the Brockmeyer and Riverview hockey rinks. A permit is issued for exclusive use of the hockey rink from the Park Office; The permit must be picked up in person. No smoking is allowed on school district properties. No phone reservations are accepted. There are lights at Riverview hockey rink, but not at Brockmeyer hockey rink.
Outdoor Recreational Rink - Reservations
Up to a two hour block of time can be reserved, at no charge, during non-public skating hours as follows:
Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A permit is issued for exclusive use of a recreational rink from the Park Office. The permit must be picked up in person. No smoking is allowed on school district properties. No phone reservations are accepted.

Evening and Weekend Public Skating Hours From October 25, 2009 to February 14, 2010: *** Exceptions: Public skating may be canceled from time to time due to schedule conflicts or special events like Badger State Games. Advance notice will be posted at the indoor rinks. No Evening and Weekend Public Skating on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 and Sunday, January 24, 2010 School Vacation skating hours: Thanksgiving: Christmas: December 27, 2 - 5 pm Last public weekend skating session is Sunday, February 14, 2010. The indoor rinks will never close due to cold temps. MPB #1 is heated and MPB #2 has an infrared heater which provides minimal heat.
